Husqvarna improved their line-up of stand-on mowers with the new V500 series, and it promises to make its mark on the market. Affordable, yet offering one of the best services when compared to other similar models on the market, this unit is surely going to be the darling of many professionals.
Unlike most series which are made to house a lot of mowers, the Husqvarna V500 series will hold just two models – the V554 and V548.
This sort of simplicity makes the choice even easier on professional mowers who are looking for new replacements to their old stand-on mowers. Beyond that, users also get to enjoy all the new features that comes with this one.
One of the most stunning things about this series is its ergonomics and engineering. Allowing for a quick mount and dismounting, zero turn capability and great maneuvering to match, this series is poised to provide rivals a run for their money.
This mower would compare to the Exmark Staris Stand on or Scag stand on. We don't believe it is quite up to the level of Scag's stand on mower but still worth considering. It is closer to the Exmark Staris in price range so, if on a budget, these may fit the bill.
Let’s not let all the cat out of the bag here though. How about we check out what makes this series special, and tick, under the hood?
Power
Available in two different models, the V500 series carry the same engine. This is none other than the Kawasaki V-Twin FX Series engine with a 24.5hp. The engine comes with double cylinders, using air as the cooling agent while being run on gasoline.
Pump/ wheel motor is the preferred transmission type. To aid easy cooling of the engines, fan-cooled pumps are also thrown into the mix. For those who care about land coverage – as everyone should – the mower will be able to drive up to speeds of 11mph in the forward direction.
Features
- Kawasaki 24.5hp V-Twin FX series engine
- 11 mph forward drive max speed
- Two models separated by cutting decks – 48 inches and 54 inches Commercial ClearCut decks
- Cutting decks made of steel
- Blade tip reaches speeds of 93.98mph
- Pump/wheel motor transmission type
- Dual cylinder engine with fan-cooling pumps
- Fuel tank can hold 7 gallons of gasoline at once
While we would have loved to see an Electronic Fuel Injector system in place, that is nowhere to be found. However, we are sure the 7-gallon fuel tank would be able to hold its own well and cover a larger land mass.
Durability
Looking at the quality of build and materials that went into the construction of this model, it is sure that they are built to last.
The Husqvarna V500 series’ steel frame is extra coated with colors (more on that later) to prevent damage and rust. The steel has also been treated to withstand abuse, giving you an edge when working in rocky areas.
The 7-gauge, fabricated, steel cutting deck is made with an average thickness of 4.76mm. That ensures the deck doesn’t fail in the harshest of conditions too.
When it comes to engines, there is little to be talked about there. Kawasaki has proven itself to be, time and again, a top manufacturer. Users are this sure to be getting a good deal when they snag up one of the tractors in this series.
Comfort
There is a limit to the comfort which an operator can get on a stand-on mower. The Husqvarna V500 series still take it a notch further though, positioning the operator’s stand safely between the two tires.
This helps weight distribution around the machine and between the tirestoo. The controls have also been paced at the operator’s arm length, helping them manipulate and maneuver the machine without having to cause too much physical strain.
The flip-up standing platform also ensures the operator can mount and dismount the unit faster and safely. In fact, it helps when users just want to walk behind their mower and not mount it at all.
Of course, none of this can beat sitting in a premium tractor chair. However, padding is provided around the knees and thigh area. Should the operator feel the need to rest their weight against the machine while in operation, they wouldn’t find it discomforting.
Aesthetics
Functionality should trump beauty, but the Husqvarna V500 series finds a way to marry both.
As is with most tractors, the red coloration takes up most of the space. To add more spice to it though, we have black and white detailing all around. The controls are highly improved, making them more practical and colorful at the same time.
Couple that with the color-coded gauges on the control deck and the machine becomes a true beauty to behold.
Safety
The biggest safety addition made by Husqvarna to the V500 series is inthe form of a sensor located in the hand control section. The sensors are there to automatically switch off the machine as soon as the operator jumps off and takes their hands off the control deck.
Besides being a safety feature, that also helps the operator react better when there’s something they have to remove in the middle of the field before operation continues.
Price
You can get a Husqvarna V500 series model from $8,899.95. This price can easily climb, depending on various factors such as delivery, your choice of vendor and so on.
