Power
There is more than enough power built into each mower to cut any terrain. Both gas engines have 37 horsepower Vanguard EFI motors backing them up, while the diesel has a 24.7 horsepower Perkins motor. As for the drive system, it has dual 16cc hydro-gear pumps with an 18ci Parker Wheel Motor.
The Vanguard engine is an absolute beast. That thing is incredibly hard to slow down. The Perkins diesel engine on the other hand isn't bad, but it does struggle in some very tall grass. If I were going with a diesel mower I would probably go with another brand with some better engine options. Check out the full list of the best diesel zero turn mowers here.
Features
All three mowers have the same features. It is what separates Bad Boy Renegade mowers from the rest of the brands.
- Key FOB makes starting the mower easier with a push start button
- 1/4″ Sloped deck with reinforced 3/8″ sides
- Digital diagnostics display
- Dual pump belt system with a tensioner design
- PEER, no-maintenance spindles
- Front tires will never go flat
- Adjustable footrest
- Deck dial adjustment with foot lift pedal
Cut Quality
All mowers have cutting heights from 2″ to 6″ and leave the lawn looking spectacular with the requested height for each cutting area. Both gas-powered engines, the 6100 and 7200, have the following:
Cutting Widths: 6100 – 61″; 7200 – 72″
Chute Up / Chute Down Width: 6100 – 63.5″/75.5″; 7200 – 74.5″/86.5
For the diesel 6100, it has the following:
Cutting Widths: 6100 – 61″
Chute Up / Chute Down Width: 6100 – 63.5″/75.5
The deck design is built with spindles that require no maintenance, which is the most significant positive. It is adjusted with a foot pedal. After using the deck, we have found nothing wrong with discussing it. The deck, belt, spindles, and blades are built to last and are easy to work on when needed. Both the gas and diesel decks have the deck idler arm with spring and bearings. It allows for better cutting speed and reliable tension.
Durability
The power, precision, drive, and comfort make this zero turn mower one of the top picks in our book. This mower is built with a dual pump belt system with a new and patented tensioner design that gives the belt a 50 percent longer life. All power is distributed evenly from the crankshaft, pump drive, and belt. It is also built with a strong cast I-beam front rail and forks. It is all heavy-gauge steel constructed and has an all-welded frame. That says it all.
Comfort
Sometimes the ground is not always level and has holes or ruts. After riding both the gas and diesel mowers, rest assured that we can vouch for their comfort. It has a premium suspension seat that is adjustable for your comfort, height, and weight, and the seat absorbs the bumps.
As far as suspension, it has a patented 3-link rear trailing arm suspension with a patented front independent suspension. Lastly, the drive handles are adjustable for your comfort with an adjustable footrest like all zero turns.
The overall suspension isn't quite that of a Ferris or Toro MyRide but it is pretty comfortable compared to most fixed frame zero turns.
Aesthetics
Bad Boys have the orange and black brand colors that make the mower gorgeous. It looks mean, and it means business when it is cutting. But don't let the look fool you. It is an entirely safe mower. There are other accessories like the row bars that add to the look and safety. The back tires are Exclusive Reaper® Rear Tires, and the front is designed with no flats allowed.
Build Quality
With the entire mower built with the toughest steel, the quality speaks for itself. Below are the other build qualities that make this mower reliable.
- Overall Height / Length: 51″/91″
- Deck Thickness: 1/4″ Thick Solid Steel
- Rear Tires / Front Tires: 26×12-12 Turf / 15×6-6 Smooth No Flat Front tires
- Frame: Heavy-Gauge, All-Steel, All-Welded Frame
Pros
This is one of those mowers that advertise and speak the truth about every detail. They are every bit as good as they claim and reliable. Like every machine, they will break at times, but the quality build keeps the mower loyal. The belt will last longer than other mowers; the front tires will never go flat, and you cannot beat the comfort with the seat, adjustable footrest, and adjustable drive bars. It has the power needed to cut the most prominent properties, and the deck size is perfect for lessening the cutting time.
Cons
Nothing could be negative about this mower after driving, cutting, working on, and looking at the Bad Boy Renegade mowers.

Purchased the badboy renegade in April 2022 5 hours in deck bolt nut straps thread’s and comes off during mowing, iam like ok things happen , 8.7hours of use belt starts smoking I shut it down, remove the guards no obstructions, check blades underneath no obstructions, touch the pulley on top bad mistake burnt my hand spindles already going out, have it in the shop now very frustrating I have always wanted one of these now iam se one guessing after having two husqvarna pz 60s the last 15 years with no problems other than maintenance, I hope that this gets taken care of and nothing else happens , 14,500 is alot to spend and not have dependability
I also purchased a Bad Boy Renegade brand new in 2019. This mower is complete garbage. Thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket repairs. Many months with no mower while it sat in shop. Its currently in the shop for more major repairs. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. I wish a bunch of us Renegade owners could find each other as I’m sure this is a widespread problem that needs a proper solution.

Purchased the gasoline Renegade today and cut a small amount. It is by far the smoothest riding mower I have driven and it has plenty power. I have a DZ1211 with 1600 hours and I love it but this Renegade is really good ride and good cut.

Although I only ran my Renegade a short time today I have to say it is the most comfortable and smoothest riding mower I have ever run. I have a ZD1211 with 1600 hours and I really like it but this Renegade is really outstanding on rough ground. Bad Boy got this one right. I’ll have to make more comments about this mower when it has a few hours of service.
