With years in the lawn mower industry, Ferris has built their reputation as a reliable source of high-powered and durable machinery. The Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower is the latest diesel-run engine, promising never before seen horsepower. Company reps promise that this model comes with more power and higher productivity than any previous mower.
This is a replacement of the once popular Ferris IS5100. This was the previous diesel zero turn that was discontinued several years ago. They were discontinued because of new diesel engine regulation and they ran into problems finding a Tier 4 diesel they could use on the mower.
After several years of redesigning and finding a suitable engine they have finally released the long awaited IS6200. This mower is an absolute tank! Let's check out the details.
Power
The Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower is the company’s new flagship model with an impressive Caterpillar C 1.7 engine. That means this mower runs on a three-cylinder diesel turbo engine that holds up to 1.7 liters of fuel at a time. With an astounding 48 horsepower and 166.5 Nm of torque, you can take this mower out in even the toughest of conditions.
Another factor that boosts this model’s performance is its fuel delivery system. The high pressure injection mechanism boosts the Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower power density, making it one of the best mowers on the market in terms of raw power.
That makes this mower perfect for rough terrain, especially rural or industrial grounds where you find wet or dense grass that is difficult to cut. Here, any ordinary mower simply won’t cut it. You’ll need a strong body and high horsepower to get the job done.
Features:
This IS6200 mower is packed with features. It is an incredibly build mower that is very big. It will offer a great quality of cut, incredible power, and a comfortable ride. Below are some of the most notable features.
Upkeep And Maintenance
All of this heavy machinery requires careful upkeep and maintenance. But, don’t worry. The Ferris team has designed inbuilt features to keep this mower running smoothly over time. One of the major issues in mowers of this size and power range is overheating.
However, the oversized engine cooler placed in front of the engine takes care of this with ease. It keeps the internal temperatures of the device within the acceptable range.
Since it's next to the operator’s seat and not near the rear of the machine, you don’t have to worry about cut grass entering the cooler and blocking it up. As a result, the cool air that goes in is clean and free of particles.
Another important concern is keeping engine emissions below the allowed range. The guidelines for diesel engines are extremely strict when it comes to exhaust fumes. That’s where the complex treatment system comes in.
Harmful exhaust gases are sucked into the stainless steel catalyst container. The catalyst promotes a chemical reaction with the gases. As a result, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and other organic fractions are oxidized, rendering them harmless to the environment and human health.
Independent Suspension
The company’s patented suspension system is also a huge factor. The Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower takes user comfort into account with its independent front and rear wheel suspension capabilities. As part of its front, the device uses independent control arms that make maneuvering extremely easy.
For both the front and rear, the design uses larger coil-over shocks that provide superior performance damping and give you complete control over your vehicle. These coils act as a suspension member that shoulders the vehicle’s weight and maintains mowing height, thereby providing high-quality consistent results.
Two-Belt Deck Drive System
In order to get a precise and consistent cut, the Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower uses a two-belt deck drive system. The deck system lets the grass rise up in the cutting chamber before using the cutting blade. This allows a more accurate cut throughout and increases the belt’s life.
Triple Mower Deck
The triple deck option lets you choose between multiple discharge options. You can allow side discharge, mulching, or rear discharge depending on your preference. With mulching, the blade chops up finer pieces so you can avoid the cut grass clumping together. Contrarily, with side discharge you can purchase an additional grass catcher and attach it to your mower.
Durability
The frame design helps make the Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower durable, long-lasting, and better suited to dealing with external impacts. The 38.1 by 63.5 mm tubular steel frame gives this mower a heavy duty body capable of withstanding direct hits on rough terrain.
The rear bumper wraps around the length of the machine and tapers inwards as it moves downwards. This helps increase its ground clearance, so you can easily move your mower over ramps or unload it off a vehicle.
Continuing the same pattern, the bumper also tapers on the sides. This allows the mower to clear obstacles from its path. But that’s not all. For additional protection, Ferris uses strengthened metal tubes to form the middle section of the rear bumper. As a result, the lawnmower is able to withstand high or sudden impacts without damaging the machine.
Cut Quality
The cut quality of the Ferris IS6200 is very similar to that of the ISX3300. If you're side discharging or mulching it is the same deck, spindles, etc. Overall, the cut quality is really good on this mower.
The triple mowing technology is a very interesting feature. It has been used in the Europe market for a few years now. The side discharging and mulching offer a great quality of cut. The rear discharge, like every other rear discharge deck, doesn't offer that great of a cut. This is normal since it is very hard to get the right air flow and suction in the deck for a good cut.
The rear discharge isn't too bad though. It does a good enough job for most of the applications it will be used for. I think the new technology is something that really sets this mower a part from others.
Warranty
If you decide to purchase the Ferris IS6200 zero turn mower, you need to know what parts are covered by the warranty. Five separate warranties apply to this mower.
First, you have a 5-year, unlimited hours, suspension warranty, which covers the coil-over shocks and other suspension related parts. So, if you’re having trouble with the company’s patented suspension system, you can easily get it replaced and your mower will be good as new.
Second, a 4-year warranty protects the balance. This covers 500 hours in a 4-year period, but unlimited hours within the first 2 years. Third, the hydro drive belt, battery, blades, tires and brake pads are covered for a time period of 90 days post purchase.
Fourth, the deck drive belt is covered by the company warranty for 300 hours within a 3-year period. Within this, both the parts and labor are insured for the first year, but only the parts are covered in years two and three. Finally, a 2-year warranty consisting of 2,000 hours covers the mower engine.
Price
The Ferris IS6200 is priced around $30,000. This is definitely high, but it isn't too bad when compared to other similar zero turn mowers. The big Caterpillar engine definitely adds a good bit to the price, similar to every other mower they are found on.
