Bad Boy Revolt Stand On Mower Review

The Bad Boy Revolt is a new stand on mower introduced for the 2019 season. We were able to get our hands on one of these units to see what we thought. Our initial impression is that the mower is well built and has some potential for being one of the premier stand on mowers.

Bad Boy Company

It is a company that exclusively manufactures high performance, heavy duty, professional mowers which started with a strength of 20 employees and which stands now operating with 700 employees.

They say that Bad Boy Mower may be the last lawn mower you need to buy. They have been in the business for the last 15 years, I think this expertise is what makes their lawn mowers durable and ergonomical.

Comparison

If I compare Bad Boy stand on mower with the Ferris Z2 stand on, and Scag V-ride II stand on which are competitors because of being in the same price segment as Bad Boy's stand on mower. The Revolt is definitely a close competitor. They have some similar features and specs.

The bad boy stand on falls a little short with gas tank size, deck construction, and engine options. Each of these are not deal breakers but they can affect efficiency and longevity of the mower.

The gas tank is a little small compared to the Ferris and Scag but not a huge difference. The Revolt has a 6.5 gallon tank while the two competitors have 8 gallon tanks. This may not seem like a huge difference but a small tank plus a carbureted engine will definitely not run as long as the others.

The deck is a little behind that of Ferris and Scag. The cut quality will suffer a little but not a huge amount. Ferris' ICD deck and Scag's Velocity deck are two of the top cutting decks in the industry. We noticed that Bad Boy's deck doesn't have as much of a slope in the front of the deck as the others.

The Ferris Z2 stand on has the 28 hp Vanguard with oil guard compared to that of Bad Boy Revolt Stand on mower with 23.5 hp Kawasaki FX. It makes the Ferris Z2 more powerful and will stand up better in overgrown or wet situations.

Power

Bad Boy Revolt Stand On mower comes with a 23.5 hp Kawasaki FX Engine. It can produce a maximum torque of 39.9 ft. lbs. @ 2,400 RPM. I think the engine is powerful enough and I am happy with its performance in regular conditions.

If you are mowing overgrown or wet grass you may find that the engine will bog down some. This is mainly because of the engine's power and some to do with the design of the deck. The exit shoot doesn't seem to be as wide as some other mowers.

Features

As they say, they have incorporated some patented dual deck support isolators. The main function of this is to reduce the damages from side impacts.

Since the fuel tank is placed in the center of the machine, you can stand between the rear tires, which makes its handling easy. I was able to test the mower on some hills and it does pretty well. The large tires and the low center of gravity definitely makes this mower one of the best on hills.

Some other features:

  • Bottle holder
  • Quick access panel to deck and drive belts
  • Comfortable thigh pad made for all day mowing
  • Three position speed control
  • Large front and back tires for better traction and great for jumping curbs.
  • 7 Gauge slope nosed deck

Cut Quality

I have experienced fairly good cut quality because of the sloped 7 gauge deck. It ensures that the grass is upright before coming in contact with the blades. This is a similar design to the Scag and Ferris deck but not quite as well built. It still appears to give a good quality of cut in most conditions.

Durability

Due to the high-performance Kawasaki engine and a strong body frame, the Bad Boy stand on mower has decent durability. Durability should not be a problem in the long term.

The mower seems to be built with longevity in mind. There are some pivot points and deck adjustment mechanisms that I am alittle skeptical about but overall the machine is very well built.

The covers over the spindles seem to be a little cheap. This isn't a huge deal but after hundreds of hours they may start to bend or break. Only time will tell for this to be true or not.

Comfort

It has an adjustable rubber suspension riding platform which was able to provide me with a comfortable ride. Comparing the entire range of mowers in this segment, I will have to say that the rear tires are the biggest which provides it a good amount of traction as well as a high ground clearance which also improves the visibility.

It also comes with a good quality thigh pad which is designed to provide comfort to your thighs while operating the mower.

Aesthetics

The look of the Bad Boy Revolt stand on mower is robust and gives it a masculine look. It is a very modern design and sticks to the trend of awesome looking mowers that Bad Boy as come to be known by the last couple years.

The orange on black look is very eye catching. Our first thought is that the mower would look great paired with some stihl handhelds.

Build Quality

It comes with a massive 23 x 9 – 12 Reaper rear Tires. It has a shorter frame and curved front fork support which gives it extra strength. Apart from that, it comes with a 1.5˝ x 3˝ Heavy-Gauge All-Steel Rail backbone which feels really durable.

One thing that I noticed is that the plastic used is also of good quality and doesn’t seem to be cheap.

Safety

The Bad Boy Revolt has a throw guard that prevents anything to throw up from the side and damage any property or hurt any pets.

I was happy to see a good quality internal parking brake which prevents it from rolling down a slope. Good quality brake is a must for lawns with uneven surfaces and for transporting on a trailer

Price

The Revolt range of Bad Boys Mowers starts from $6699. The company also offers different types of financing and discount offers, which you can check on the dealer website.

This price point comes in fairly lower than most other stand on mowers. We have pointed out some spots where they probably saved costs. However, the mower is a very good value for the current price on Bad Boy's website.

Wrapping It Up

Bad Boy’s Revolt stand on mower is a very good lawn mower. It comes with power, packed in a short frame. It feels powerful while operating. I particularly liked the look of the mower. It looks and feels very strong. The company Bad Boy Mower is also a very good company and provides very good after-sales service. Also considering other options available in the market, it is a very good choice and is worth the money.
